OLD BUT GOLD

As I lace up the last on my tennis shoes I head for
the door and get in the car. I didn’t knowing
where I was going and the anticipation was killing
me. My parents have recently decided to
surprise us with new adventure more frequently.
With a week in advance we headed down to
Boone, North Carolina on a family vacation. I
didn’t know what would take place in an
Appalachian state but I was excited for new
adventures.
Everyone piles into the car and we start the drive.
The more we drove down the road the harder the drive was. At one point we were on the side of a mountain, which is very nerve wrecking. We finally made it to our destination. “Dad and I thought it would be fun to climb Grandfather Mountain today.” mom said. Mountain climb? I’ve never done it but hey it could be fun. The trail we decided to take led us to a 5,282 elevation. I have never been up that high but I was prepared for a challenge.
We start climbing up the trail seeing the beautiful nature and mountains surrounding us. Unfortunately, we did not see a mountain goat or any animal for that matter. But the climb was still enjoyable. As we reach the top I start to get a headache because I am not use to the oxygen levels so I drink some water and continue the climb.
Laughing along the way my family and I reached
the top of the mountain. The view was beautiful.
I felt like I could see miles of mountains. It’s like
they never ended. It gives you a perspective of
things. The world is so big and it’s incredible seeing
a view so high up. Humans look like little specks.
Being up so high and being able to see so much
around you is a wonderful sight. There are no trees
blocking your view and no buildings up too high.
It is just you and the clear view. I will never forget
that sight and I hope to someday go back.
Another adventure took place in Boone and that
was climbing a waterfall. It wasn’t a big waterfall
but it was still cool to climb on. My family and I
took a small road trip to Crabtree Falls and began our hike. During our hike a slight sprinkle of rain fell upon the trees and eventually it started to downpour. A little rain wouldn’t hurt the Lupo family. So we continued our trail.
Being careful of the slippery rocks we reach the falls. My oh my it was beautiful. The water was graciously flowing downstream and as soon as we arrived the rain stopped and the sun shined down on us. Feeling adventurous I decided to climb all the way to the bottom of the falls. I could feel a cool mist spread across my face. Up close the falls were big and powerful. It was so cool I just kept climbing and saw natures true beauty.
Seeing those mountains and waterfalls I got to think how lucky I am to see such beauty of this world. We may look at lots of the bad and ugly things going on throughout this world but by taking a step back you can see how truly beautiful the earth is. I would go back to North Carolina in a heartbeat. To go on an adventure and try something new is exciting and you never know you might find a new hobby of yours.
