Background

As a kid the first game that made me more interested in games was was fallout three. Fallout three is an open world role playing game. The game takes place in 2277, 200 years after the nuclear holocaust in 2077. The setting of fallout 3 takes place in a post-apocalyptic retro-future. The map of fallout three takes place in the nuclear wasteland of washington D.C. (the capital wasteland) Northern virginia and parts of maryland.

Story

In fallout three you play the son of famous scientist james in the underground vault that kept you alive during the nuclear holocaust. One day in the vault your father mysteriously escapes vault 101 and flees into the capital wasteland for some unknown purpose. You then escape the vault to go find your father and go out into the capital wasteland for the first time. Once you have escaped the vault you find your father and try to help him create a water purifier so that people don't have to drink untreated water.

Setting

The wasteland is a cruel unusual place with radiation and many different civilizations. In the wasteland the main protagonist will encounter feral ghouls which are humans who have lost their sanity and ability to reason due to radiation. Some other enemies in the capital wasteland are super mutants (mutated humans), Raiders (crazy people), Robots and many more.

The game itself

Fallout one and two were made by black isle studios and while in the making of fallout three bethesda game studios bought the rights to the game and while keeping the same premise of the game, they changed it completely. Fallout one and two were third person straight games however when bethesda game studios bought fallout they made it a first person shooter. If bethesda game studios had not bought out fallout it would not be what it is today.

Playing it as a kid

When I was a kid fallout three was the game I played the most. Fallout has hundreds of hours of gameplay just doing the quests and many more hours of just walking the wasteland. When I was a kid I didn't play the quests very often it was just fun to mess around and fight across the capital wasteland. It may sound weird but one of my favorite memories of fallout three was playing with my friend in my basement, we were chasing a cow and it ran to a pole and started to float up and down the pole. We both knew that it was a glitch in the system but, that didn't stop us from calling it super cow. If I had never played fallout three I would never have gotten into gaming which is my favorite hobbie by far. It has even gotten me interested in game programming for bethesda for a career in the future.

Even if you have never picked up a controller in your life I would recommend this to anyone because it is old but Gold.
